The power of single parenting

What is single parenting? Single parenting is when a parent is administering and raising a family without a partner. In many cases, women and men have no choice but to raise their children without a second parent due to several different circumstances.

In most cases these situations are out of the single parent’s power. They have to do what is best for their children.

This story is not going to be about the tragedies of single parenting; this story is about the power of single parenting and the triumph and tribulations that single parents go through while raising their children, because it’s a big job.

For single parents, every day overflows with high demands of accountability: affording the care of children on one income, chauffeuring children from one activity to the next, and keeping up the house. In the midst of endless activities, the constant on-the-go lifestyle sets in. Feelings of falling short and loneliness often surface: Will my child be balanced? Will my child resent growing up without both parents? These worries and fears can be nerve-wracking.

As a parent, you don’t want to beat yourself up because of imperfection. One of the best things in this day and age is parenting classes where you can learn and interact with other parents who are facing the same demands. Living as a good example for your children is the best teaching tool a child can emulate growing up.

One of the positive aspects of being a strong single parent is continuing to show a strong concern for your children’s activities, no matter what they are. Loosen up standards from time to time; being strict all the time isn’t always fun, and bear in mind that spending time with your family and by yourself is more essential than having a spotless house.

Another key point in single parenting is maintaining open communication. This is very important. Involve children in decision making because children can make decisions, too, and this helps them feel a part of the family; it can be small things like picking movie night or giving them choices on what pajamas they want to wear at night.

Single parenthood is not easy but worthwhile, and single parents are extraordinary people too, because they are taking on the job of two people.
